DETROIT — State Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit) announced today the updates to the Detroit Caucus’s leadership team, following the resignation of former state Rep. Brian Banks. Rep. Gay-Dagnogo, previously serving as the vice chairwoman, has now assumed chairmanship.

“The Detroit caucus grew tremendously under Rep. Banks,” said Rep. Gay-Dagnogo. “Although we may be small as a group, the people we cover, and the impact that Detroit has on the state, is not. We are committed to standing together to support our respective districts and city. I do not take this new role lightly, and I appreciate the insight and guidance I know my colleagues will provide as our caucus moves forward.”

Taking her place on the leadership team is state Rep. Wendell Byrd (D-Detroit), who will now serve as vice chairman. The other leadership roles of secretary and treasurer, filled by state Rep. Fred Durhal (D-Detroit) and state Sen. David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights) respectively, remain unchanged.

“I am honored by this opportunity and grateful to my fellow caucus members for entrusting me to take on this position,” said Rep. Byrd. “Though we are one Detroit, we each bring a unique array of ideas and perspectives to the table, and I know that together, we will be able to tackle the tough problems, and develop the appropriate solutions needed, to best help the people of the city and region we so love.”
