LANSING — State Rep. Brian Banks (D-Harper Woods) joined his House colleagues today to open the new legislative session at the swearing-in held in the House Chamber at the state Capitol. Banks was sworn in by state Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack. He was joined by his mother, Joyce Banks, and his brothers, Justin Banks and Joe Holland.

“I am ready to again serve the residents of House District 1 and the citizens of Michigan,” said Banks. “I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that all Michigan students have access to a quality education and that teachers have the resources they need in their classrooms. To keep moving Michigan and House District 1 forward, we need jobs with good wages that allow workers to support their families, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and state and local leaders to bring those jobs to our communities.”

Banks will again serve as the chairman of the Detroit Caucus, a bicameral caucus of Detroit legislators working on policy and legislation to benefit Detroit communities and families. Banks’ House District 1 encompasses the communities of Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Woods, part of Grosse Pointe Shores and part of Detroit.
