Rep. Robinson Will Host Foreclosure Prevention Session

Still time to save homes before June 8 deadline
Wednesday, June 3, 2015

DETROIT – State Representative Rose Mary Robinson (D-Detroit) will host a foreclosure prevention counseling session on Thursday, June 4, at starting at 5 p.m. at Little Rock Baptist Church, 9000 Woodward Ave., in Detroit. Robinson will be joined by community groups and others to help homeowners in danger of foreclosure. Registration begins at 5 p.m., and the counseling sessions begin at 5:30.

New state laws allow the county treasurers to reduce interest rates on delinquent taxes for those who own and live in their homes as their principal residence. The date to redeem as set by state law is April 1, but the Wayne County Treasurer has extended that date to June 8, 2015, to allow more owner occupants to access this first of its kind program.

“As the deadline approaches, we are continuing to encourage residents to step forward to get help and advice. The new programs are providing relief,” said Robinson. “It is important that we send a strong message to residents facing foreclosure that there is still hope. There are programs that can help. ”

Residents with tenant, mortgage, land-contract and probate issues are all welcome to attend this free counseling session. Residents should try to bring a copy of the deed or land contract or probate order and copy of state ID or Driver’s license. Outside of this Thursday's session in the neighborhood, free help is available from other local groups. For more information, please call Rep. Robinson’s office at 517-373-1008.
