Statement from House Democratic Whip Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) on receiving the Pettalia Memorial Sunshine Award from the Michigan Press Association:

Thursday, March 9, 2017

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Michigan Press Association for my work to make Michigan’s government more open and transparent, especially as someone who earned a degree from Michigan State University’s School of Journalism.

“I have worked hard during my tenure thus far in the Michigan House of Representatives to ensure that journalists — and all Michigan residents — have the information needed from state government to hold elected officials accountable. I am incredibly proud that the legislation I introduced with bipartisan support was unanimously approved in committee today to subject the governor’s office and state Legislature to increased public scrutiny under the Freedom of Information Act and the Legislative Open Records Act.

“I am looking forward to my continued partnership with the Michigan Press Association to promote transparency in Michigan.”
