LANSING — State Representative Henry Yanez (D-Sterling Heights) introduced a House resolution today calling on the United States Congress to oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. LANSING – Macomb County Democratic Representatives voted no today on House Bill 4822, which would mandate that students be retained in third grade if they do not read at a third-grade level. The legislators disagreed with the bill because of the mandatory retention without parental consent, and because the bill takes away local control and fails to provide enough resources to districts.

LANSING – State Representative Henry Yanez (D-Sterling Heights) has introduced a package of bills to repeal Michigan’s 2011 fireworks law that allows residents to buy bigger fireworks and shoot them off with almost no local regulations. Yanez’s bills, House Bills 4725 and 4726, would return Michigan to the safer, more peaceful fireworks restrictions that existed before 2011.
