LANSING — House Democrats voted to support and amend the supplemental budget bill, House Bill 4329, rejecting the Senate’s $5 million loan and instead again approving a $3 million grant for Macomb County to deal with repairs because of the December 2016 sinkhole.

The Michigan House today overwhelmingly approved a funding bill urgently needed to address health and safety issues related to the Macomb County sinkhole emergency.

The bill approved with bipartisan support includes $3 million from the state to help protect people, property and the environment from potential sewage overflows as crews continue to address the sinkhole that developed in late December. A state of emergency continues in the area.

LANSING — State Reps. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores), Vanessa Guerra (D-Saginaw), and Peter Lucido (R-Shelby Township), alongside State Sens. Curtis Hertel (D-East Lansing), Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge), and Tonya Schuitmaker (R-Lawton), introduced a package of bills known as “Wyatt’s Law” which would create and maintain a registry for those convicted of child abuse. The House and Senate bills are identical pieces of legislation, and match bills introduced in the House last session.
