LANSING — State Representative Lauren Plawecki (D-Dearborn Heights) introduced House Bill 6111 today, which would prevent financial abuse of senior citizens. The proposal would assist in the investigation and prosecution of crimes against elderly victims by establishing the definition of “consent” in state law. 

A vulnerable adult who consents to the transfer of their property should do so knowingly, intelligently and voluntarily. In Michigan, there is no clear, uniform sense of consent in the law....

"I am shocked and outraged that my Republican colleagues are using this lame duck session to yet again attack our hardworking residents. Legislation, up for discussion this week, would all but destroy pensions for future public employees and aggressively cut benefits for current ones. This proposal is yet another in a constant wave of attacks. This is an insult to the teachers, firefighters, police officers and other hard-working public employees who are the foundation of our communities....

DEARBORN HEIGHTS — State Representative Lauren Plawecki (D-Dearborn Heights) took the oath of office Thursday to begin serving as state representative in the Michigan House of Representatives. Michigan Supreme Court Justice Brian Zahra administered the oath. Plawecki represents the 11th District, which comprises all of Garden City and Inkster, and portions of Dearborn Heights, Livonia and Westland.
