LANSING, Mich., Oct. 24, 2025 — Yesterday, the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) announced it was directed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to pause issuing November SNAP benefits because of the federal funding lapse due to the federal government shutdown. In response, state Rep. Julie Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) issued the following statement: “In Michigan, we did our job and passed a state budget. I’m calling on the Republicans in D.C. who hold majorities in all three federal branches of government to return to the negotiating table and resolve this manufactured crisis now. The rising costs of health care is alarming, but not being able to feed one’s family is inhumane. Hunger does not care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat. It affects families, seniors, veterans, kids and the grocers and farmers who rely on SNAP dollars in our rural and urban communities alike.” |
