LANSING, Mich., Feb. 18, 2021 — The Michigan Poverty Task Force issued a new report yesterday proposing several bold and expansive policies needed to lift millions of Michiganders out of poverty. Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac), a member of the task force, issued the following statement in support:
“The recommendations in the report are critical to alleviating the stress and pressure on Michigan families experiencing poverty. We’ve spent years either dismantling, defunding or erecting unrealistic barriers to use our social safety nets. Enough is enough; now is the time to restore humanity and dedicate ourselves to helping Michiganders get back on their feet. These recommendations are an excellent place to start.”
