DETROIT, Mich., May 5, 2022 — Michigan state Rep. Stephanie A. Young (D-Detroit) will once again partner with Detroit Blight Busters on the kickoff weekend of Motor City Makeover in Detroit.
During Young’s first term in office, she, along with her staff and a host of volunteers, have done a number of cleanup projects throughout her district. They cleaned up several illegal dump sites, boarded up and painted neighborhood art on vacant homes, mowed lawns, and removed trash and debris near a senior apartment.
“I have been a hands-on advocate for community revitalization and beautification for decades,” Young said. “My team and I really enjoy working with our friends at Detroit Blight Busters to make a difference in the community.”
This year, the project will include clearing a safe route to school for students traveling to and from Old Redford Academy at 17195 Redford St. Following that, the team will move to Verne Street and Lahser Road to clean up and make a safe route for seniors who live at Restoration Tower,16651 Lahser Road. The team will cut down overgrowth, clean up debris and secure abandoned houses in the area to give seniors and others peace, so they can enjoy taking a walk in their community.

Volunteers are still needed and can register the same day at 9 a.m. at the Detroit Blight Busters building, 17340 Lahser Road in Detroit.
