LANSING, Mich., May 16, 2022 — State Rep. Terry Sabo (D-Muskegon) won the Michigan Disability Network Independent Livings Champion Award for 2021. The award recognizes Sabo’s dedication and efforts to support people of all physical and mental abilities.
“Earlier last week, I was surprised with the Michigan Disability Network Independent Livings Champion Award for 2021. It has always been important to me to understand that not everyone has the same life experiences as me. Listening to and seeing the issues that others deal with makes me a better legislator and person. I am humbled to receive this award,” Sabo said.
On Tuesday, Sabo gratefully accepted the award at a ceremony. Diane Fleser, the chief executive officer for Disability Network West Michigan, introduced Sabo and had this to say afterward:
“It is a pleasure to introduce our Champion Award to Representative Sabo. He has been a strong supporter of Disability Network West Michigan and the people we serve. Rep. Sabo understands our independent living philosophy — he has worked tirelessly to support our efforts in helping people with disabilities achieve their goals of making their own decisions about their lives. Rep. Sabo understands that living independently does not always mean living alone or without support — it means living a life that includes personal choice.”
