LANSING, Mich., June 15, 2022 — The House Appropriations Committee voted today to transfer just over $100 million from the Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve (SOAR) Fund to the Critical Industry Program. The transfer will help the Michigan Strategic Fund support Ford Motor Co.’s announced investment of $2 billion in their existing plants for electric vehicle-related manufacturing, which will create 3,200 good-paying jobs. After the vote, state Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit), Democratic vice chair of the committee, issued the following statement:
“I’m extremely proud that the majority of my Democratic colleagues joined me to help support this enormous economic investment in the people of Michigan. Just as our state put the world on wheels, we are positioning ourselves to be the leader in manufacturing related to electric vehicles. Today, House Democrats delivered for Michigan workers and the future of our state.”
