With the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, we now face the very real possibility that safe and legal abortion will no longer be available in Michigan. This is not a future that I will accept. All people are entitled to reproductive rights, including being able to have an abortion if they need one. While the thought of abortions being banned and criminally punishable is distressing, I want to reassure you that I, along with many of my fellow Democratic legislators, are determined to protect reproductive rights for all. I will be doing everything I can to preserve abortion access in Michigan.
Democrats in Michigan are deploying every strategy we have to make sure abortion is legal and accessible. We’re fighting in the courtroom, in the legislature and in the streets.
This is a time for all of us to come together and demand the preservation of essential reproductive health care. The Reproductive Freedom for All initiative gives people the power to protect abortion rights, as well as permanently protect birth control, prenatal care, in-vitro fertilization, miscarriage management and other health care needs. If this initiative gathers enough signatures to get on the ballot and passes, it will enshrine reproductive rights and abortion access into the Michigan Constitution and better protect these rights from the whims of the current and future legislatures.
In this difficult and confusing time, myself and my staff are always here. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office.
