LANSING, Mich., Jan. 11, 2023 — State Rep. Jasper R. Martus (D-Flushing) was sworn in today as state representative for the 2023-24 legislative term. The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal opening of Michigan’s 102nd Legislature and the first day House Democrats had the majority in over a decade. Martus’ district comprises Flushing, Flint Township, Mount Morris Township, Swartz Creek and Montrose.
“Today, I had the honor of being sworn in on the floor of the people’s house and am ready to start the people’s work,” Martus said. “We have an agenda that will make lives better for families across Genesee County and the state of Michigan. Thank you to Speaker Tate, my colleagues in the House, family, friends and supporters who have had my back in every step of this journey. Now it is time to get to work and deliver for our community.”
Martus is a lifelong resident of Genesee County. He graduated from Michigan State University’s James Madison College with a degree in International Relations and a minor in world religions. Before his election to the Michigan House, he worked for elected officials at the federal and state level including Congressman Dan Kildee, former Michigan Senate Democratic Leader Jim Ananich and former Michigan House Democratic Leader Christine Greig.
