LANSING, Mich., Jan. 18, 2023 — Speaker Joe Tate (D-Detroit) announced last week the members of the Michigan House of Representatives’ standing committees, subcommittees and appropriations subcommittees. State Rep. Donavan McKinney (D- Detroit) will serve on the House Appropriations Committee, and he was appointed majority vice chair of the Subcommittees on the Department of Corrections and the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. In addition, he will serve on the Subcommittees on the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development/Department of Natural Resources, Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs/Department of Insurance and Financial Services, and Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

“I am excited to start my first term in office representing the communities of Northeast Detroit, Warren, and Center Line. As a longtime advocate of environmental and equitable justice, I can say that there is a lot of work to be done,” McKinney said. “For years, the funding for clean and sustainable infrastructure and money for the Department of Corrections have been lacking, which has collectively further diminished the state’s environment and criminal justice system. During my time, I will advocate to support better investments and focus on more impactful legislation. With this in mind, I am grateful to serve on these committees and for a chance to make Michigan a cleaner and more just place for my constituents and for future generations to come.”
