LANSING, Mich., Jan. 26, 2023 — The Michigan House passed a supplemental budget bill today totaling over half a billion dollars to make a real difference in people’s lives by funding affordable housing, assisting small businesses, and attracting good-paying jobs to help support our hard-working families. The supplemental also included an enormous win for the 84th House District of $25 million for much-needed repairs to a community lifeline, the Fruitridge Bridge in the city of Walker. Walker and surrounding areas in the 84th House District have seen enormous economic growth and investment across the board from numerous businesses, including but not limited to a recent Amazon plant, Meijer’s headquarters, Irwin Seating Co. and a new Michigan State Police post. State Rep. Carol Glanville (D-Walker) issued the following statement on the state funding to repair and replace the bridge:
“The economic development and professional investment in Walker is energizing and providing new opportunities for the people of the 84th District. Growth also increases traffic flow and needs, one of which has been the notable wear and tear on a frequently used bridge and travel route in our community. When it comes to the safety of residents and drivers and the economic vitality of our community, we can’t afford half measures. Today, we’ve secured long-sought after and necessary funding to get the job done to restructure and safely repair the Fruitridge Bridge. I was proud to advocate for and place my vote in favor of this investment, and I am grateful to my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for coming together to deliver solutions for West Michigan, particularly the city of Walker.”
