LANSING, Mich., March 9, 2023 — The Michigan House passed bills last night that restore worker freedoms and re-establish collective bargaining rights and prevailing wage (House Bills 4004, 4005 and 4007). The days of “freeloader freedom” are over. After the legislation passed, state Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement:

“As a proud former dues-paying union member, today is a celebratory day for Michigan workers. This legislation ensures the hardworking people of our state have bargaining rights and earn the wages they deserve. Restoring workers’ rights develops a strong workforce, and a strong workforce equals a stronger Michigan. Policies that encourage a strong workforce help deliver a higher standard of service and build stronger communities.

“Gallup does an annual, national poll asking how people feel about unions. The last one they conducted, in September 2022, showed that 71% of people polled think that labor unions are a good thing. This is the highest show of recorded union support since 1965. I am proud to have supported this legislation.”
