LANSING, Mich., May 2, 2023 — State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) introduced House Resolution 92 today to name May as Drug Court Awareness Month in the state of Michigan.
“Drug treatment courts deliver better results at less expense to the public than conventional courts do,” Witwer said. “They help those suffering from substance abuse disorders reunite with their families, secure employment and contribute meaningfully to our society. By treating defendants both compassionately and justly, drug treatment courts benefit us all.”
There are nearly 4,000 drug treatment courts nationwide, including 208 in Michigan. They have helped support the rehabilitation and recovery of more than 1.5 million Americans. Drug treatment courts save the public an average of $6,000 for every individual they serve.
