LANSING, Mich., May 3, 2023 — State Rep. Kristian Grant’s (D-Grand Rapids) House Bill 4201 passed in the House yesterday. The legislation would remove the sunset date on allowing retailers to sell alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption. The “cocktails-to-go” policy was initially started during the pandemic, though it has continued to prove beneficial for local service industry businesses. After introducing the bill, Grant issued the following statement:
“The House voted nearly unanimously for my bill, which would eliminate the sunset provision on cocktails-to-go in Michigan. We have seen over the past few years how beneficial this policy is for local businesses — restaurants and bars need every tool available in order to thrive in communities all across our state. My bill will make this critical tool permanent.”
