Greetings, neighbors,

I hope you are enjoying our seasonal Michigan weather (the good and the bad)! In Lansing, we have fully moved into budget season. This means that we are laser-focused on figuring out where to allocate funds in a way to best serve you and all of our constituents. I have spoken with many of my colleagues and am excited to be part of this process to serve all of you back in House District 12.

Respectfully,

Rep. Kimberly L. Edwards

House District 12

Announcements

Community Events

In April, I held my second meeting of “The Stigma,” focused on the mental health of elders. Our special guests and panelists included Katie Wendel from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B, Karen Schelberg with the Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and Anthony Walburg, founder of Heavenly Comfort. This was a great conversation regarding elder care, the state of the industry in Michigan and the mental health of our elderly population. We once again thank the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center for hosting us.

Coffee Hour Graphic

While we will not be having The Stigma in May, we hope to see you at one of our coffee hour Community Conversations. These will take place Saturday, May 6, from 10-11 a.m.  at Coney Island (27027 Gratiot Ave., Roseville, MI 48066), and Friday, May 19, from 10-11 a.m. at Tim Hortons (17210 E. 9 Mile Road, Eastpointe, MI 48021).

Legislative Update

House Bill 4396

Several of my colleagues and I sponsored legislation to eliminate payroll fraud. My bill specifically would protect employees who participate in investigations or report a violation. This bill is part of one of the many packages that we’ve worked on to protect Michiganders and working families.
