Lansing, Mich. June 30, 2023 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed the state’s fiscal 2023-24 budget this week. This is the first budget in 40 years crafted by a Democratic majority — it reflects Michigan’s values by making the largest investment in education in the state’s history, including free breakfast and lunch for every public school student and affordable pre-K, as well as substantial investments in workforce recruitment and retention, water infrastructure and public safety. The legislators worked in a bipartisan fashion to deliver a timely, responsible budget that ensures federal funding stays in Michigan.
“The budget is a great win for Michigan’s people and the future of our state. Last night’s budget passage was a hallmark to our priorities, and it keeps the momentum going at the Capitol. Since my colleagues and I stepped into the majority, we’ve been hustling to get things done for the people of Michigan,” said state Rep. Cynthia Neeley (D-Flint). “This budget speaks volumes to our priorities, and I am excited not only for the all around state wins, but the investments I brought to our community, as well. I secured investments for our state park, a perfect place for families to gather. We secured investments in 100k Ideas, a nonprofit that helps individuals to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. We also secured funds for new police cars to help our officers arrive on scene safely and quickly, to keep our community protected. I am proud of the work we’ve accomplished, and it’s all for you!”
