Happy summer! As we move into our in-district work period in the Legislature, I am excited to spend more time engaging with and getting to know you, our community and constituents. I hope to see you at one of our Ice Cream Socials or at one of our “The Stigma” events. I also want to highlight some of the amazing work we have put out in the last few weeks. We are creating tools to invest in housing development; saving you tax money on certain food purchases; keeping our children safe by banning child marriage and creating safety measures for sexual assault by medical and college staff; and helping our unions and teachers be better able to advocate for themselves. I feel blessed every day for the opportunity to represent House District 12 and am acutely aware of the amazing work my fellow colleagues and I have been able to complete this term.

The Stigma – June’s mental health discussion with special guest state Rep. Donovan McKinney was fantastic. We discussed mental health challenges faced by men and the importance of vulnerability and community. We hope you will join us for The Stigma in July to discuss women’s mental health: no matter what our hair looks like or what is in our purses, our mental health matters.

Budget 2023-24 Passed
The Michigan House of Representatives passed the state’s fiscal 2023-24 budget, marking a significant reinvestment in the people of Michigan. The School Aid budget — the largest in Michigan’s history — expands access to free preschool and provides free breakfast and lunch to every public school student. It also includes robust support for at-risk youth, mental health services, before- and after-school programs and so much more. There is no better investment than our kids, and this budget puts our state on a path to a bright future.
Additionally, almost $4.2 million was appropriated to water infrastructure in this year’s budget. These funds will go towards updating sewer systems and replacing lead service lines. These are just a few of the amazing investments that I am excited to have secured at the Capitol. Wayne County 11,000 to Zero
In 2009, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office discovered 11,341 untested rape kits dating from 1984-2009. With funding from the Department of Justice, the prosecutor’s office was able to process all of the kits.
