WALKER, Mich, Dec. 6, 2023 — On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Task Force on Higher Education will host the Summit on the State-Federal Relationship in Higher Education. This first-of-its-kind convening will bring together more than 50 policymakers and leaders in higher education, higher education executives and federal policymakers.
The purpose of the event is to discuss state and federal strategies to improve higher education across the country. State Rep. Carol Glanville (D-Walker), chair of the Michigan House Committee on Higher Education, will be in attendance.
“Higher education remains a good return on investment, both for the economy at large, and for personal quality of life. That said, the ongoing issue of rising costs is one that must be addressed,” Glanville said. “I am committed to making college more affordable and accessible across the board, from certificate and skilled training to professional and advanced degrees. It’s an honor to be a part of this conference. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and experts from across the country to better inform my work in the Michigan House of Representatives.”
State, federal and institution leaders will meet over a series of roundtables. Topics of focus include; the cost of higher education, supporting student success, public support and financial aid, transparency and accountability, and the state/federal partnership in higher education. Legislative and institutional leaders from twenty-five different states will be in attendance along with both current and former U.S. Secretaries of Education.
