LANSING, Mich., Jan. 11, 2023 — The U.S. Air Force has picked Selfridge Air National Guard base in Macomb County for the placement of a new KC-46A squadron, which are high-tech refueling tankers that will replace the retiring KC-135 Stratotankers, ensuring the base’s long-term success. After the announcement, state Rep. Denise Mentzer (D-Mount Clements) issued the following statement:
“The Air Force made a terrific choice in this squadron placement — I may be a bit biased, but they couldn’t have picked a better place. I’ve advocated endlessly for the support of Selfridge ANGB, whether it is attending the air show, championing the future of the base with House Resolution 33, celebrating the construction of a new $28 million facility, or securing over $4 million in investments in this year’s budget. The base is essential to our country’s security and provides many job and economic opportunities to the area. Selfridge is truly an important place in our community; this is tremendous news!”
