BENTON HARBOR, Mich., March 6, 2024 — The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity recently announced grant awards to nonprofits and local governments to aid in economic development and placemaking. Benton Harbor will receive $1 million to renovate and reopen the Bobo Brazil Community Center, which has been closed since 2009. In response to the news, state Rep. Joey Andrews (D-St. Joseph) issued the following statement:
“Community centers like the Armory bring vitality and energy to the populations they serve. I want to applaud the city for its successful grant application, and I look forward to seeing what this funding can accomplish for Benton Harbor and its residents.”
