Lansing, Mich., May 6, 2024 — State Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren) is pleased to share updates on her first week in the Michigan House of Representatives. On her first day after being sworn into office, Xiong cosponsored her first concurrent resolution to call on the federal government to increase its funding for the “Double Up Food Bucks Program” with State Rep. Reggie Miller.
This week, Xiong also voted on House Bills 4169 and 4170, which would enter Michigan into the Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact, as well as HBs 4504 and 4505, to bring Michigan into the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact. These policies aim to allow occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, physical therapists and physical therapist assistants licensed in one compact-member state to practice in other member states without the need for multiple licenses.
“I’m proud to have voted in favor of key health care legislation that helps to improve public health. Occupational and physical therapists ensure that patients receive the best care possible,” Xiong said. “Being part of these compacts makes it easier for healthcare workers to operate within our state, while still ensuring patients are protected through the high-quality standards set by the compact.”
Xiong also voted on House Bills 5182 and 5182 to support public safety.
“My first week in office was incredibly exciting and productive. I look forward to the weeks and months ahead in delivering positive results for my district. I will continue to put the people of Michigan first as we continue on with the legislative year,” Xiong concluded.
