LANSING, Mich., June 13, 2024 — The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled today that a group of anti-abortion physicians has no legal basis to challenge access to mifepristone, one of two medications commonly prescribed for medically induced abortions. Mifepristone will continue to be accessible to people in states where abortion is legal, including Michigan. In response, state Rep. Julie M Rogers (D-Kalamazoo), who is the House Health Policy Committee Chair, released the following statement:
“Today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling is a win in the fight for reproductive freedom,” said Rogers. “As a practicing health care provider, I am relieved to know that this safe and effective medication will still be available to those who need it. However, we must remain vigilant when it comes to safeguarding reproductive freedoms and health care. We are committed to protecting individuals’ fundamental rights to reproductive health care and continue to support and protect access to abortion in Michigan.”
