LANSING, Mich., June 27, 2024 — The Michigan Legislature passed the final state budget for the 2025 fiscal year ahead of the legally required July 1 deadline. Leaders in the state legislature crafted a budget focused on strategic, targeted investments that improve the lives of people and hometowns across West Michigan without raising taxes. After the vote, state Rep. Carol Glanville (D-Walker) issued the following statement:

“The state budget reflects our commitment to enhancing education, fostering an innovative economy and protecting our environment. Additionally, by investing in veterans care, meals on wheels and renewable energy, we’re addressing the immediate and future needs of Michiganders.”

The budget includes several items that will specifically benefit Grand Rapids, Walker and Grandville, communities that Glanville represents. Notable highlights include:

  • $9.7 million for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
  • $2 million for Meals on Wheels.
  • $200,000 for Mosaic Counseling expansion of mental health services in Kent County.
  • $500,000 for Blandford Nature Center Farm Classroom and Programming.
  • $125,000 for Hunger Free Campus pilot program at Grand Rapids Community College.
  • $3 million to Grand Rapids to install a community solar array at the Butterworth Landfill.
  • $527,000 Grand Rapids Civic Theater sidewalk reconstruction 527,000
  • $1 million for the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
  • $1.5 million for St. Mark’s Episcopal Community Outreach Center to expand their efforts.
