Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Happy 4th of July! As your state representative, I am reaching out today to share some exciting updates and accomplishments from our community and the Capitol. Together, we are making strides in ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of our children and families.

AED Donation to Schools

I had the honor of presenting a new automated external defibrillator (AED) to Wyoming High School on Thursday, June 6. Recently signed legislation of mine requires schools maintain AEDs and ensure they are accessible within one to three minutes during a cardiac emergency. In celebration of the new law, the NFL donated 50 AEDs for Michigan legislators to distribute to schools in their districts. We’re increasing the number of AEDs available in our communities so that every school has the tools and the know-how they need to respond to cardiac emergencies. These new laws not only represent our work to make schools safer, but also show the strength we have when we come together for the common good.

Enhancing Emergency Medical Services

I am pleased to announce the progress of House Bill 4614, which I introduced alongside several of my colleagues. This bill aims to ensure that individuals holding temporary licenses as emergency medical technicians (EMTs), EMT specialists and paramedics can only practice under the direct supervision of fully licensed professionals. This bill is a step toward improving the quality and safety of emergency medical services by ensuring that temporary license holders are properly supervised, thus protecting patients and supporting the training of new EMTs and paramedics.

Celebrating the Kids Health Hero Award

I was incredibly honored to receive the Kids Health Hero Award from the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Every child in Michigan deserves to have a community that supports them and provides opportunities for whatever pathway they choose in life. Safety, good health and a great education are all components we must continually improve for every Michigan child. While we still have work to do, I am proud of the advancements we have made to make Michigan the best state to raise a family.

Resources

Families with Bridge Cards can double their money in Michigan-grown fruits and vegetables through the Double Up Food Bucks program at participating farm markets. Look for a farmer’s market near you here.
