LANSING, Mich., July 8, 2024 — The Michigan Legislature passed the final state budget for the 2025 fiscal year ahead of the legally required July 1 deadline. Democratic leaders crafted a budget focused on strategic, targeted investments that improve the lives of people and hometowns across Michigan without raising taxes. After the vote, state Rep. Kelly Breen (D-Novi) issued the following statement:

“I am proud to have passed a locally focused budget that puts people over politics, putting money back into the hands of hometowns where it belongs. We are making specific, targeted investments into public safety, workforce development and community revitalization. I know this budget will directly aid hometowns in my district for generations to come, making Michigan a place where families can live and young adults will stay.”

The budget includes several items that will specifically benefit the communities that Breen represents. Notable highlights include:

  • $1 million for the 42 Strong Foundation, an Oxford-based nonprofit started by Tate Myre’s family to provide peer-to-peer mentoring for youth in Southeast Michigan.
  • $700,000 for mental health services in South Lyon Schools.
  • $250,000 for the Northville Living and Learning Center, a nonprofit dedicated to helping adults with disabilities and their families.
  • $200,000 for high intensity tutoring in Farmington Schools.
