LANSING, Mich., Sept. 18, 2024 — State Rep. Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) reintroduced the Clean Michigan Initiative, a comprehensive, multibillion-dollar proposal aimed at revitalizing Michigan’s environment and fostering economic growth. This initiative seeks to address critical environmental challenges by investing in pollution control, water quality, and the redevelopment of contaminated sites.

The Clean Michigan Initiative continues Michigan’s legacy of environmental leadership, building on the original effort from 1998. Now, it aims to address the state’s evolving needs by focusing on protecting and cleaning up the environment.

“Michigan’s future depends on our ability to protect and enhance our environment,” Farhat said. “The Clean Michigan Initiative is a bold step forward, ensuring that we not only protect our natural resources but also create new opportunities for economic development through green investments.”

The proposed legislation will focus on public health through water quality improvements, air pollution reduction, and the cleanup of contaminated sites, lakes and rivers. The Clean Michigan Initiative will also draw significant private investments to Michigan and create thousands of new jobs throughout the state.
