Dear Neighbors,
I am excited to share with you historic investments House Dems have secured for our public schools. This week, I voted to give schools a total of $150 million in funding for schools to spend responsibly on school safety and mental health. This legislation empowers school districts across the state to invest in solutions tailored to each school’s individual needs.
Uplifting students and educators in our area is one of my utmost priorities. It is clear that the support our local schools provide for our bright-minded students is irreplaceable. That’s why I am delighted to share with you the funding our district’s schools will receive from this bill:
- Allegan Area Educational Service Agency: $14,510
- Fennville Public Schools: $141,706
- Glenn Public School District: $4,264
- Saugatuck Public Schools: $91,148
- Benton Harbor Area Schools: $148,236
- Benton Harbor Charter School Academy: $50,866
- Bridgman Public Schools: $92,201
- Coloma Community Schools: $133,116
- Countryside Academy: $84,548
- Lakeshore School District: $303,647
- Mildred C. Wells Preparatory Academy: $24,299
- New Buffalo Area Schools: $53,905
- River Valley School District: $56,132
- St. Joseph Public Schools: $330,098
- Covert Public Schools: $37,446
- South Haven Public Schools: $201,509
- Van Buren ISD: $25,407
House Dems are taking action to keep our schools strong and our kids healthy, and this funding is just one part of our transformative plan. The total of $150 million passed in this bill adds to the other major investments:
- $1 million for educational materials on the safe storage of firearms
- Allowing OK2SAY, an anonymous tip line, to accept reports of improperly stored firearms that a child might be able to access.
Strong schools support healthy kids, and I will continue fighting to put our schools first.
