LANSING, Mich., Nov. 13, 2024 — The House passed House Bills 510001 today sponsored by state Reps. Jasper Martus (D-Flushing) and Julie M. Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) respectively. These bills allow tax credits for research and development expenses that have the potential for significant technological innovation, job creation and economic development for businesses.

“These tax credits will allow for innovative new economic development right here in Michigan,” Martus said. “We are making it known that our state is full of opportunities to start and develop a business, which will ultimately create jobs and boost our economy. It is vital that we find ways to drive Michigander success and the R&D package does that.”

The passage of these bills marks a strategic move to position Michigan as a hub for technological innovation and economic growth.

“I am thrilled to have been a part of a package of bipartisan bills to add another tool in the toolbox for Michigan to attract talent,” Rogers said. “My bill aims to add R & D tax credit incentives for small businesses with fewer than 250 employees and fosters an environment to help drive innovation and economic growth amongst many sectors, including life sciences and advanced manufacturing. This package is forward thinking and designed as a starting point to provide support for long-term investment in Michigan companies.”
