DETROIT, Mich., Dec. 20, 2024 — State Rep. Stephanie A. Young (D-Detroit) has been elected chair of the Detroit Caucus for the 2025-26 legislative term. This caucus is a pivotal group of lawmakers dedicated to advocating for the needs and priorities of Detroit residents. 

“It is an honor to be entrusted with this responsibility by my colleagues,” Young said. “Detroit is a city of resilience, innovation and rich history. As chair-elect, I am committed to making sure our caucus remains a strong and unified voice for the people we serve. I look forward to addressing the challenges our communities face and advancing policies that foster equity, opportunity and progress.”

Young has been a staunch advocate for economic development, education and public safety in Detroit, bringing a deep understanding of the city’s unique needs to Lansing. Since taking office, she has worked tirelessly to amplify the voices of her constituents and deliver tangible results for her community.

“I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to ensure Detroit’s voice is heard loud and clear in every policy discussion and to promote initiatives that create pathways to prosperity for Detroiters.”

State Reps. Helena Scott (D-Detroit) and Regina Weiss* (D-Oak Park)  were named vice chair and secretary, respectively, while Rep.-elect Tonya Meyer-Phillips (D-Detroit) will serve as treasurer for the 2025-26 term.
