Republican action costs hardworking Michiganders better health care and pensions
LANSING, Mich., Feb. 4, 2025 — Senate Democrats filed a lawsuit yesterday to protect Michiganders and fight to secure Michigan’s law-making process. The 103rd Legislature began with a flurry of chaotic actions by House Republican Leadership, including holding hostage nine bills passed by the House and Senate. The bills take action to lower health care costs, add pension benefits for corrections officers and help financially protect struggling workers. House Republicans refuse to send the legislation to the governor for consideration. In response to Senate Democrats’ lawsuit, Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton) issued the following statement:
“Democrats are committed to upholding Michigan’s Constitution and continuing to build people up. Yesterday’s announcement is just Democrats’ latest step to check the negative impacts caused by Republicans creating all this unnecessary chaos. Republicans are ripping off workers, cheating families and double-crossing the people of Michigan. Michiganders deserve better! Democrats will not stop speaking out and working for you until justice is served — we’ve got your back.”
