LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her seventh State of the State Address before a joint legislative session tonight. In her speech, the governor discussed her plan to lower costs for families ahead of more looming tariffs, increase the workforce and deliver results for the people of Michigan. After the address, state Rep. Sharon MacDonell (D-Troy) issued the following statement:
“People — that is what the governor’s address focused on tonight. Taking the burden off the backs of Michiganders by lowering costs during a time of uncertainty. We have seen what the Republican chaos has cost the people of Michigan — higher prices, fewer jobs and even attacks on public education. It is critical that we continue to support accessible Pre-K for all and affordable child care, robust job opportunities and properly funded public education, for our kids’ futures and their family’s wellbeing. As a state legislator, it’s my job to represent the people and I will continue to advocate for a better Michigan.”
