Democratic legislator joined by MLVC board member at governor’s address

LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — State Rep. Natalie Price (D-Berkley) attended Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s seventh State of the State Address during a joint legislative session today. The governor outlined her plan to lower costs for working families, invest in public schools, and ensure all Michiganders have opportunities to thrive despite ongoing federal turmoil.

“Now, it is more important than ever that this Legislature stand up for the people of our state,” Price said. “The families struggling with rising costs, the workers who need affordable health care, and the students relying on universal school lunches all need real solutions. As reckless policies and dysfunction in Washington threaten the wellbeing of Michiganders, tonight’s address was a clear reminder that we as legislators must take decisive action to protect Michigan’s schools, economy, and environment.”

Price reaffirmed her commitment to working with colleagues in both chambers to drive down costs, increase consumer protections and secure funding for vital public services. As Minority Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Public Health subcommittee, Price also applauded the governor’s commitment to tackling the urgent issue of medical debt relief.

“Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy, and too many families delay essential care due to stigma and financial strain,” Price continued. “No one in Michigan should be forced to choose between their health and their financial stability.”

Price attended the address with special guest Laura Berman, board member of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters (MLCV). A dedicated advocate for clean air and water in the Great Lakes State, Berman emphasized the urgent need for leaders who will defend Michigan’s natural resources.

“There has never been a more important moment to support state legislators who will stand up for Michigan’s air, water, and democracy itself,” Berman said. “With our Great Lakes under threat and environmental protections at risk, leaders like Rep. Price are essential to safeguarding Michigan’s future.”
