LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her seventh State of the State Address before a joint legislative session today. In her speech, the governor discussed her plan to lower costs for families ahead of more looming tariffs, increase the workforce and deliver results for the people of Michigan.

Morgan attended the address alongside his guest, Mayor Pro Tem Travis Radina — the first openly gay Ann Arbor Mayor Pro Tem in over two decades. Radina has been a leader breaking barriers and strengthening the Ann Arbor community, and his presence at the State of the State highlights the importance of representation at all levels of government. He has also been a champion for housing access and affordability, and a leader on renters’ rights — cracking down on junk fees and predatory leasing practices. After the address, state Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:

“Governor Whitmer’s vision for Michigan prioritizes the needs of our communities, particularly in expanding access to affordable housing. We all know that the rent is too damn high and it’s time to act. We need to build tens of thousands of new homes and ensure it is affordable for hardworking Michigan families. I am committed to working with my colleagues to support these common sense initiatives to ensure that all Michiganders can thrive in our great state. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work to deliver results.”
