Democratic Lawmaker unites with House and Senate Dems for Prescription Drug Affordability Press Conference
State Rep. Dr. Matt Longjohn (D-Portage) speaks at the Prescription Drug Affordability Press Conference on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Capitol Building in Lansing.
LANSING, Mich., April 24, 2025 — State Rep. Dr. Matt Longjohn (D-Portage) joined his Senate and House Democratic colleagues today at a press conference to highlight the work they’re doing together to lower prescription drug costs for everyday Michiganders.
“As the only medical doctor in our state’s legislature, I feel a responsibility to advocate for people across the state who are faced with an inability to afford prescribed medications. Being forced to choose between filling a prescription to treat diabetes, paying rent, or keeping food in the pantry is a horrible reality that no one should face. I was elected to help improve the health and quality of life of all Michiganders, and PDAB will help achieve that by easing the cost burden of medications on Michiganders,” said Longjohn.
The press conference followed the Senate’s vote on critical legislation, Senate Bills 3, 4 and 5, to establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board in Michigan and preceded the House introduction of their companion legislation.
“Michigan is ground zero for tariff impacts, and our families are already struggling with paying more for everyday necessities. Health care costs are increasing by 8-10% every year, and the fastest growing portion of our health care dollar is related to prescription drugs. I am proud to stand with my colleagues and show that while Republicans are making life more expensive and less stable for families and seniors, Democrats are working on solutions.”
