MACOMB, Mich., April 30, 2025 — President Donald Trump announced during his visit to Southeast Michigan yesterday a new mission of F-15EX fighters for Selfridge Air National Guard Base. State Rep. Denise Mentzer (D-Mt. Clemens) is a strong advocate for increased funding and opportunities at Selfridge —she recently secured $15 million in state funding for capital improvements and infrastructure projects to attract a new fighter mission. Last term, she championed the future of the base with House Resolution 33 of 2023, and also celebrated the construction of a new $28 million facility and the announcement of a new tanker squadron. Following the president’s announcement, Mentzer issued the following statement:
“This investment in Selfridge Air National Guard Base is a huge win for our community. The new fighter mission will bring countless benefits for our military and will advance our national security goals. It will also benefit our economy, create new jobs, and our state’s prosperity. New fighter missions will work to advance our national security goals, while also creating new jobs and furthering our state’s economic prosperity. Ensuring Selfridge has the necessary funding to attract these fighter missions has long been a top priority of mine in the Legislature, and I applaud the coordinated efforts of state and federal leaders to get this done for the people of Michigan. This is a huge win for Macomb County.”
