Dear Neighbor, June has arrived! Michigan has entered our characteristically vibrant summer season, with the longer hours in the sun being perfect for slowing down and appreciating this beautiful season in our Great Lakes State. Whether you’re hiking through local trails, tending your garden, making your way to the water or attending a community event — this time of year is ideal for reconnecting with nature and neighbors alike. June is also a time to reflect upon and honor important moments and movements. Pride Month celebrated the diversity and strength of the LGBTQ+ community, and Juneteenth invited us to acknowledge our shared history and commit to a more just future. As you look ahead this month, I wanted to share a few pieces of information which may be relevant to you: In this issue –
City of Farmington Hills Free Summer Concerts Kicks Off The City of Farmington Hills officially launched their FREE Summer Concert series this last Thursday, June 12! They have a series of concerts planned through the summer, ending in August, which community members are encouraged to attend. These performances are set to take place at two locations throughout the city: The Hawk Theatre Mainstage, which is located inside the Hawk Community Center, 29995 W. 12 Mile Road; and the Heritage Park Amphitheater, which is in Heritage Park, 24915 Farmington Road. Below is the concert series as it currently stands:
Farmington Hills is home to Michigan’s largest city-run Cultural Arts Division. The division offers a wide range of arts programming, like classes, events and performances at the Hawk Theater. The goal is to connect people from all backgrounds to the arts. It also runs the Hawk Makerspace, where people from all ages and skill levels can explore creativity projects using top-notch tools and support. Lathrup Village City Wide Garage Sale and Food Truck Fridays Join your community in Lathrup Village as they gather to support local sellers, find unforeseen gems and score a great deal! Community members are encouraged to register for the event, and all participants will be required to submit a Garage Sale Permit, which can be found here. All registrants will receive two garage sale signs, and fees for the weekend have been waived by the city council. When: Saturday, June 21 – Sunday, June 22 Where: Throughout the City of Lathrup Village Cost: Fees have been waived by the city council Also, most Fridays throughout the summer will be Food Truck Fridays from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Lathrup Village Municipal Park, which is located directly behind the city’s municipal building. This is a family friendly event which spotlights the vibrant local food truck scene which we are grateful to have the privilege of hosting in our community. Residents are encouraged to attend this event, connect with members of their community, and enjoy great food! More information about Lathrup Village events can be found at LathrupVillage.org/events. Openings Available to Serve on One of the Governor’s State Boards or Commissions The governor is inviting community members to apply for available appointments on more than 240 state boards and commissions. If you’re a teacher, healthcare worker, small business owner or community advocate, your voice and experience are relevant and can have an impact on the future of our state.
