Rep. Hoskins and Fellow Legislators Reintroduce Legislation to Ensure Diverse Histories are Taught in Schools |
LANSING, Mich. June 26, 2025 — This week, several Senate and House legislators introduced the “Teach MI History” legislation, ensuring students across the state are taught inclusive history lessons reflecting the many diverse communities that call our state home. Today, Senate Bills 453-455 were introduced in the Senate, sponsored by state Sens. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit), Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton) and Erika Geiss (D-Taylor). The House versions of these bills, House Bills 4687–4689, were introduced yesterday by state Reps. Jason Hoskins (D-Southfield), Veronica Paiz (D-Harper Woods) and Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth). This legislation was crafted using feedback from a diverse group of stakeholders and marks a major step forward in establishing a more complete story of Michigan’s collective history. “This legislation is about telling the whole truth, not just the parts of history that are comfortable,” said Hoskins. “When we teach the full story of Michigan — the triumphs and the injustices; the joys and the pains — we help build a more honest and compassionate future. Our children deserve an education that reflects the state they live in and the people who built it. A history that reflects them. I’m proud to stand behind Teach MI History.” More information about the Teach MI History package can be found here: housedems.com/TeachMIHistory |

Farmington Founders Festival |
The beloved Farmington Founders Festival is back for another year with a lineup of events that’s sure to be fun for the whole family! The event is set to run from July 17-19 this year, and will feature events such as the Founders Festival Parade, the 5k Color Fun Run, the Crafter’s Market — and on Friday and Saturday, there will even be an area for kids and families to enjoy themselves with bounce houses, stage shows, a foam party and other activities that are fun for the whole family. Farmington Hills Fire Department CPR Training |
The City of Farmington Hills’ Fire Department, as well as the city’s Emergency Preparedness Commission will be hosting an American Heart Association “Heartsaver” class on Thursday, July 24. The course is designed to train members of the public in CPR, AED and Stop the Bleed tourniquet skills and is intended for everyone, including individuals with little to no medical training. As summer temperatures rise and people begin undertaking water-based activities, an individual with knowledge of how to perform CRP can be of critical importance in an emergency. More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals each year, according to the American Heart Association — but the intervention of a bystander trained in these techniques can double, and sometimes triple, a person’s chance of survival immediately after a cardiac arrest. When: Thursday, July 24 from 5:30-10 p.m. Where: Fire Station #4 located at 28711 Drake Road Cost: $10 registration fee for Farmington and Farmington Hills residents, $20 for non-residents. |
