July Capitol and Community Updates

Dear Neighbor,

I hope you’re enjoying the summer and finding time to connect with the community. Over the past month, I’ve been busy meeting with residents, attending local events to meet you where you are, and working to craft impactful legislation around housing that will be introduced soon. I’m always inspired by the energy and ideas I hear across the district. Thank you for staying engaged — there’s more great work ahead!

PRIDE is about so much more than a month. I am always happy to celebrate because when people are able to be as much of themselves as possible it gives us all permission to be who we are as well. In a world full of people obsessed with dictating how others can just BE, let’s find more ways and spaces to encourage love and people being celebrated in the skin they’re in!

It was great to break ground on the new Division St. fire station. SE Grand Rapids has experienced some of the longest service times in the county because our stations were serving a large number of people.

I was happy to team up with Senator Winnie Brinks to provide funding for two new stations in District 82. They will shorten wait times and save lives!

The ribbon cutting for the new Boston Square Early Learning Center was perfect. Given the moment we are in it was motivation to remember what we can do together. Investing in early learning for children is more important today than ever.

Thank you BSELC and all the partners! Excited to see all the amazing things at HUB07 come to life!

Thank you to everyone who came out for this month’s community conversation at Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center.

It is important that we continue to rally around them during this important time. So many community members helped elevate their voice during their time of uncertainty and I look forward to us all working together to help them move forward.

Thank you to Wood TV 8, WZZM, and WGVU for highlighting this important issue.

We’re hosting a Community Conversation — a chance to hear legislative updates, ask questions and share your priorities directly with Rep. Grant. From housing and education to jobs and public safety, your input helps guide the work we do in Lansing.

This is your opportunity to speak up, get informed and help shape the future of our district.

When: Monday, August 18, 2025, from 9-10 a.m.

Our office is taking nominations for House District 82’s Teacher of the Month. Nominate a teacher you believe should be recognized as an outstanding teacher in our district this month by clicking the button below.

A reminder that you can reach out to our office for a multitude of reasons including but not limited to:

• Navigating state agencies like the Unemployment Insurance Agency, Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, etc.
