It’s my pleasure to send this update to your attention. At the time of this writing, we’re still fighting for the $645 million in funds promised through various work projects to support Michiganders. The fight isn’t over, and we continue to await the pending legal decision; please stay tuned.
Last year, I asked for your help and feedback about what you wanted to see in the district through the Vision Project. Michigan House Dems have begun sorting through responses from districts across the state to categorize and prioritize the issues most important to you. I’ll have more to say soon about the Vision Project results for House District 16.

Good News From Around House District 16
Good News From Redford Township: There’s a new wellness spot in Redford! I had the pleasure of attending the brand new Recreation and Wellness Center’s ribbon cutting this month. The brand‑new $21.5 million recreation and wellness facility is a modern, full‑service recreation center. This new community resource is designed for all ages, with youth, senior and community activity spaces. The facility has a gymnasium, basketball courts, youth play areas, multi‑use community gathering rooms and MORE!
Celebrating A Livonia Great!
I was excited to participate in a surprise recognition and award ceremony for Livonia leader Kate Shishkovsky. From the time my district was drawn into Livonia, Kate has been a strong community advocate who I am now so grateful to call my friend. The entire Livonia legislative delegation was on hand to give her a state seal signed by the five of us, the lieutenant governor and governor. I wish Kate well in her next chapter!
Good News From Detroit:
Congratulations to the Heroes’ Alliance! I had the pleasure alongside my colleague and Detroit Caucus member state Rep. Donavan McKinney (D-Detroit) to celebrate the innovation and bright future of Detroit area youth in automotive engineering and energy at this year’s auto show. These bright young people presented enhancements to their student-built vehicle and engaged attendees in discussions about engineering, mobility, advanced manufacturing and clean energy pathways. The organization also highlighted its upcoming Vehicle Technology Challenge, scheduled for this summer at Belle Isle, which brings together students, industry mentors and technical partners to solve real-world mobility challenges.
Thank you to Heroes’ Alliance for your leadership, to the students and families who worked on this project, and to the mentors and educators who supported them.

About the ACA: As of Jan. 26, Congress is still undecided about extending ACA subsidies. Enhanced premium tax credits enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic (8.5% cap, broader eligibility) expired on Jan. 1 after Congress failed to extend them before the deadline. We continue monitoring this issue.
Quick Updates on the State’s Budget
About the $645 million clawback: The clawback affecting funds appropriated in the 2025 state budget is frozen by court order; agencies cannot spend most of the $645 million. At this time, court proceedings are ongoing and affected organizations remain in limbo, awaiting the court’s full ruling and legislative action.
