LANSING, Mich., May 15, 2026 — The Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC) —  a biannual non-partisan conference held to determine an approximate state revenue figure, which is used to inform the state budget — met today and provided Michigan’s revenue outlook. The results show revenues remain stable, though a $1 billion gap due to multiple economic factors. After the conference, state Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit), Minority Vice Chair of House Appropriations, issued the following statement:

“This economic outlook means that, just like families must do right now with their personal household budgets, we will have to work with what we have in the state budget. That will mean working together to make the best decisions for the state. We will focus on making smart investments that will create the biggest and best impact on the people of Michigan. I will also be sure to advocate for Democratic values in our investment decisions by prioritizing families, workers, and seniors by way of helping them have every opportunity to build a better life.”
