LANSING — Today, House Republicans approved a resolution to reject Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s recent executive order which, among other things, eliminates three review boards the Legislature passed last year. These review boards allow corporate representatives to oversee the DEQ, now called EGLE under the Governor’s reorganization plan, and its permitting process. In response, state Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) issued the following statement:

“Michiganders deserve access to clean water and should be able to trust that their government will be responsive to any issue that compromises that access. The fact that this was not the case in the past was precisely why Gov. Whitmer — with her promise to bring transparency and accountability to our government — was elected.  To stand in the way of her work to begin addressing our state’s most critical environmental issues is to stand against the health and safety of Michigan families, and that was something I could not in good conscience do.”
