CHARLOTTE — The Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) announced this week that the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) board has awarded funds to the historic Beach Market Renovations Project in downtown Charlotte. The city received $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds, and in cooperation with the Friends of Beach Market non-profit organization, plans to renovate the market as a registered historic structure. State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) welcomed the good news and what it will mean for the city.
“The people of Charlotte take great pride in their community, and these funds will help bring a renewed spirit and energy to the downtown area,” said Witwer. “The renovated Beach Market will serve as a gathering place where families can come to take in a concert, shop for local produce or just interact with others on a sunny day. I would like to thank the MEDC for their continued support of the revitalization of our small towns – the future is looking bright in Charlotte.”
When finished, the renovated building will serve as a space for hosting community events and as a venue for a weekly farmers market. The Friends of Beach Market will also contribute $220,925 to the project, which will be used to construct a pavilion-like structure over the central area of the market, and make other appropriate renovations to the building.
