When fellow legislators abandon their responsibilities by not showing up, they turn their backs on the people. I have one of the longest commutes to Lansing, and I'm here because I am committed to #PuttingPeopleFirst.

While we were voting on legislation motivated by a tragedy that happened in our community, House Republicans walked out on their duty to Michigan. They refuse to show up for their communities and have let the U.P. down.
Michigan House Democrats are hard at work, passing legislation to improve the everyday lives of Michiganders. Will Republicans step up or continue walking away?

So they support sextortion and don’t want to control it? Fantastic, but not surprising.
Thank you, Jenn!
Thank you for all you do and have done!
We're expecting heavy lake-effect snow in the coming days with frigid temperatures. Although snow is always welcome for our wintertime economy, conditions can be unpredictable, so remember to:
• Avoid unnecessary travel. 🚗
• Stock up on essentials. 🛒
• Check on your neighbors. 📲

Yesterday, I testified in the House Families, Children and Seniors committee on legislation that would ensure public employees can provide for their adult disabled children. Our current system will not allow pension recipients to designate special needs trusts as pension beneficiaries. This is problematic because designating an individual instead of a trust can interfere with eligibility for other vital benefits.
This issue was brought to me by a constituent, Dee, who joined me in testifying. This legal snag has presented a significant barrier for Dee as she tries to secure a future for her loved one. Thanks to Dee's efforts and persistence, I am hopeful we can help her and other Michiganders in her position secure a stable future for their families.

Big-box stores have been using a loophole to avoid paying their fair share of property taxes. This hurts our local communities and essential services. Our local leaders have had to reallocate and reassess vital funding to ensure we can stay above water and continue critical programs at our libraries, schools and city programs from being cut.
Our bill package aims to close the "dark store" loophole and ensure these corporations pay their fair share.

The beauty of the Keweenaw Heartlands can't be overstated. From the rich geological history, housing of endangered species and year-round activities — the land should be used and managed by the Michiganders who care for it. I've introduced legislation to keep these forests owned and managed by the local community instead of allowing them to be reserved for the exclusive use of out-of-state conglomerates. ...
