• Allocating $2 million in grants to address veteran homelessness.
• Increasing property tax credits for disabled veterans or widows.
• Creating an accessible pathway for spouses & dependents to pursue a degree.

As parents help their kids read at home, we're giving classrooms learning materials proven to support students who face reading challenges, ensuring every student has the power of literacy.

Attending the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Town Hall and 60th Anniversary today in Marquette! Every year, this program works to train medical professionals in rural medicine, helping to grow our base of health care providers across rural Michigan — especially here in the Upper Peninsula. I'm deeply grateful for their dedication to improving health care access in our communities!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and access to quality health care is crucial. I'm proud to have secured $2 million in funding for Munising Memorial Hospital/ Bay Care Medical Center in this year's state budget. This will help upgrade their facilities and ensure Yoopers can access the care they need right here at home. 🩷

I had an opportunity to visit the Boulderdash target, where Talon Metals recently discovered a deposit of high-grade copper and nickel ore, bringing new potential and possibilities to many of the Upper Peninsula’s hard-working families. I am eager to see where this new discovery leads and will remain engaged with Talon as they plan for future operations. When we work together toward safe, sustainable mining in the U.P., everyone wins.

What definition of “sustainable “ is being used here? The economy is a human construct of the environment. We mustn’t confuse that for personal short-term gain.
Rural communities can experience health care deserts, including access to reproductive health. Governor Gretchen Whitmer is implementing a "Take Control of Your Birth Control" initiative, which will help make care more accessible. Community partner agencies will provide no-cost birth control, including over-the-counter oral contraceptive pills, emergency contraception, condoms and family planning educational resources.
