Camilleri on VP Pence’s visit to Dearborn Ford Plant, USMCA

LANSING — Today, Vice President Mike Pence toured the Ford Dearborn Truck Plant before delivering remarks on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) at an auto industry discussion hosted by Motor City Solutions in Taylor. In response, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) issued the following statement:

“While the ongoing conversations about a trade deal are important, the USMCA falls short of what Michigan workers need and deserve. My dad and uncle work at this plant alongside hundreds of other Michiganders, and to claim this is a good deal for the American worker is disingenuous when this proposal doesn't end the outsourcing of good-paying American jobs. Without the inclusion of stronger labor reforms and enforcement provisions in the agreement, Mexico will continue to undercut American businesses and workers who are forced to play by a different set of rules. This is a bad deal for working families and I will continue to fight for a better deal that keeps good-paying jobs here in Michigan.”
